Chris's Board Game Marathon

Chris Whitham is raising money for Dementia UK

Board Game Marathon · 7 November 2020

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who we continually support and develop – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Story

This year, the charity Dementia UK organised a nationwide fundraiser called Raise Your Game to encourage family and friends to host board gaming events to raise money for specialist dementia nurses.

I signed up for this when there was a glimmer of hope that I would be able to do an 18-24 hour marathon of board games, visiting different family members and friends to get them involved throughout the day and night - maybe even visiting a local care home...

But it was not to be...

Lockdown means that I will instead be playing with my wife and kids for as long as they will put up with me, then maybe some kind of video calling remote board game session with friends, and then some solo board games (Geek!)

Playing games is easy.  The hardest thing will be missing my post tea nap time.

Dementia is shit so if you can make even the smallest of donations then it will be appreciated.

Even if I only make £20 I'll be happy.  It'll be a good practice for next year.

Thank you

Chris
