Story
Many of you know our story but Bertie has decided that after lots of times of us raising money for BCH it’s his turn to pay back to the hospital and the superheroes who saved his life.
Bertie was born with a broken heart. He was born with transposition of the great arteries and holes in his heart. He needed life saving surgery. Our baby was looked after at BCH from hours old until he was ready for his operation at ten days. On 9th September 2015 (Happy Heart Day ♥️) he had a 6.5 hour operation to fix his heart. It was the most terrifying day of our life. But BCH is home to real life heroes 🦸♀️ and when we returned our baby was on the road to recovery. The next day he had a second operation to close his chest and the rest, thank goodness, is history. He is still cared for regularly by the nurses and consultants at BCH, checking on his progress and ensuring everything is okay.
He is keen to walk to pay back to, in his words, ‘his hospital’. To the people who gave him his life. We can never repay them or thank them enough. But if you would like to sponsor him, he would be so grateful.
At Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, we believe there’s always more we can do for our sick kids and that’s why we will always strive to do more for our patients and families. It’s our mission to raise the vital funds needed to make a real difference to all who use our hospital.Your support empowers us to take innovative approaches to treating some of the sickest children in the UK. Your fundraising enables us to make our hospital feel just like home. Your donations are helping us to find new ways to treat and cure childhood diseases.
