Story

***2019 update!!!***

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

I have revived this fundraising page from last year because (on an annoying New Year's Day whim) I signed up for the 2019 Edinburgh marathon again and am therefore currently going through all the torturous pain and regret of training all over again. This will be my 3rd marathon and will take place on the 26th of May, exactly 2 months from today.

If you read what I wrote below, you'll see why I chose to run and fundraise for the marathon last year. Everything ended well thank goodness and Kyle got all the all clear - as we knew he would! - in late July after several weeks of chemotherapy. However, the cause obviously remains a vitally important one and I'd therefore appreciate any extra donations to top up last year's huge total!

A reminder of what we achieved last year thanks to everyone's generosity:

  • £5283.56 raised for Cancer Research UK (with Gift Aid)
  • 214 donations in just 4 weeks
  • In the top 1% of JustGiving pages in the UK in May
  • In the top 20 JustGiving pages in the UK in the first 24 hours
  • Exactly £4500 of donations without Gift Aid

Obviously I do not expect the page to get the same level of traction this year, but any extra donations you can spare would be incredible.

Last year I ran the marathon in 3h45 and am hopeful that I'll beat it this year based on training runs so far!

Thank you!!!!

2018

After 3 years spent recovering from the last one, I have decided to once more put myself through the torture of training for and running a full marathon - in just over 3 weeks I will be running the 2018 Edinburgh Marathon! What with jet lag from long trips to China, Japan and the US, shin splints and a foot injury that I'm afraid to say both looked and smelled like a moderate case of trench foot, training has hardly been ideal. However, I am more motivated now than ever to do the marathon, get a good time, and raise lots of money for Cancer Research UK.

In all honesty I wasn't going to bother setting up a JustGiving page for this, but my friend Kyle (pictured!) was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer and this week has started a three month course of chemotherapy. Having spoken about it, we both agreed that something good should come out of the situation...so please give a big welcome to this page!!! Anyone who knows Kyle at all will know that he is dealing with this in the best possible way - lots of optimism, laughter and planning of amusing hats to wear. He is the best fun ever and having worked together for just a few months he has become one of my best friends and I think we easily hold the record in the office for hours spent laughing at the most ludicrous things.

He won't want any pity/sympathy/emotion...but please do feel free to direct all of that at me instead!!! Plodding around on boring long runs and trying to find the perfect balance between Britney, Lady Gaga and Beyonce on a running playlist is certainly no walk in the park...

I know this is short notice and I am asking for a lot, but any amount at all that you can donate would be massively appreciated! When I did the Hannover Marathon in 2015 I got over £1000...this time I would like to double it and get over £2000! Please please be as generous as you can - it will help to keep both of us going big time, and of course make a huge difference to an amazing cause!

Thank you so much and brace yourselves for 3 full weeks of pestering!!!!
