We educate, support & raise awareness to save lives and improve outcomes.

Story

Hi, Christoph here. We are cycling to Cardiff from Oxford on 9-11 September 2016 to raise awareness of sepsis (septecimia), more commonly called 'blood poisoning'. We will be 6 cyclists (and a support crew), covering about 120 miles in 2 days.

My wife Liz suffered this medical condition in August 2015, resulting in the amputation of both her lower legs, severe loss to both hands, and other life-changing injuries. Liz has undergone 9 surgeries since August 2015, with more planned (the next will repair damage to her outer and inner nose). This ride is part of our fight back against sepsis.

The Dons of Oxford are doing this as a part of a larger event called the UK Sepsis Trust 'Cycle 4 Sepsis', in which cyclists from around the UK (and further afield?) will set off on their bikes, like we are, from their homes to converge on Cardiff on 11 September.

Your donations will go to the grassroots charity UK Sepsis Trust. The UK Sepsis Trust aims to:

'save lives and improve outcomes for survivors of sepsis by instigating political change, educating healthcare professionals, raising public awareness and providing support for those affected by this devastating condition' (pasted from http://sepsistrust.org/about/)

Many thanks from (see portraits below):

Christoph (a.k.a Sparkles, cyclist)

Liz "Legs" Frood (Boss, support crew)

Emeran (a.k.a ERA-B, the Enforcer, support crew)

Anika "Sweet Lips" Bachhuber (Capo, cyclist)

Jane "the Blonde" (Consigliere, support crew)

Paul "the Pandiculator" (Associate, cyclist)

"Madeye" Mette (Associate, support crew)

Joshua (a.k.a. Itchy Fingers, Associate, support crew)

Mark "Numbers" Lee (Associate, cyclist)

Maiken (a.k.a. Mimi, Associate, cyclist)

Melissa "the Muscle"  (Associate, cyclist)

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
