Hi I am Chris Graham,
I am 39 years YOUNG, have just left the British Army and I have dementia.
I lost my Dad (42 yrs) and Auntie (41yrs) due to early onset dementia. My brother Tony is also very much affected now (43yrs). I learnt some time ago that I also have the same gene and would eventually develop the disease.
Before I was diagnosed with dementia, I decided to plan and complete a big endurance challenge to raise awareness and money for research to help find a cure. Although I will more than likely not benefit from any future treatment, I want to contribute to finding a cure for people with dementia in the near future, which is why I’m supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Since joining the British Army aged 16 I have been passionate about sport and endurance challenges. I have now left the services due to my dementia diagnosis – but whilst I am still able, I have decided to undertake the trip of a lifetime
Not one to shy away from a (16,000 mile) challenge, I won't let a little thing like dementia get in my way! :0) In April 2015 armed with a bike, a sense of humour and some good old Brit Grit, I aim to cycle (where possible) around the coast line of Canada and the U.S.A. to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK - it will be a year long dementia adventure.
I hope my small wheel tracks will make a huge impression as we embark on this journey, I hope we can trust in your support and that you can be a part of my adventure by following me along the way. Your donations will certainly make a big difference to the charity and people’s lives, many of which you will know.
I look forward to hearing from you - see you on the other side! :0)
