Christophers Half marathon

Christopher’s Half · 28 March 2021
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So, we are now taking things to the next step.
I’m not going to lie, leaving primary school the way Christopher did has effected him enormously.
When we consider that for 7 years, his whole life really, he was striving towards a goal, to leave primary and all of the rites of passage that this brings. All stripped away.
I absolutely know there are thousands of people who have it worse and my heart is with everyone, but to help look after him we run.
He was born moving at 500 miles an hour. He is awake early everyday and always has more energy than any kid I have ever known!
Every kid has something - a talent, a personality trait that is special. He was born with the trait of a kid who cares about others.
So, he can run, and run and run.... I would honestly like to know how far he could go - with no long term damage limitations of course.
This is his little story, over lockdown on a bit of a whim we ran 11 miles and he raised just over £2,000. We were astounded and I cried a lot over the enormous generosity of my friends and family.
On one of our latest runs he said he would like to do another long run for people affected by cancer. I asked why - his words ‘because the doctors have been so busy with the covid patients, I don’t want them to be forgotten’. I promise this isn’t something we have planted as parents as it’s not something I have had even thought about and no we don’t have a relative or even close story related to this! This is honestly his thought process.
So, as I said. Here we are at the next step, and we are thinking Sunday 28th March 2021 that he will attempt a half marathon.
I am setting this up now as we have a very long training regime and starting soon and I wanted to keep like a little ‘diary’ of his journey so people see what he is going to go through.
If you could consider donating - even 50p he would be so grateful. In fact, one suggestion was that if people could donate 50p for everyone that they can name that has been affected by this terrible illness then it would help demonstrate how important this cause is. If you can’t and in the current circumstances, we certainly don’t judge anyone, but maybe a share and with a comment of how you know Christopher and how you feel about it.
Please try not to judge us in return, this is something he has his heart set on. I just want to do my best to make sure he does this safely.
This will be done in support of Maggies, all of the cooperate blurb is below.
Thank you

Maggie’s story
A mother of two children sits with her husband as the consultant tells her that her cancer can’t be cured. They are moved to a strip-lit, windowless corridor of the hospital to process this devastating news.
This was Maggie Keswick-Jencks at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh in 1993. She and her husband Charles discussed the need for somewhere ‘better’ to go, outside of the clinical environment, but still nearby. The very first Maggie’s opened in Edinburgh in 1996 and there are now 23 centres in the UK and three overseas.
