The BBA exists to support, help and comfort those members of the Bar in England and Wales and their dependants who are in need, in distress or in difficulties. During the recent past we have helped barristers and their families in every circuit, often saving not only dignity but careers.

Story

I am running the Nike 10k on 8 July on behalf of the Barrister's Benevolent Association and in memory of Fred Ferguson.  Fred was in Chambers with me until he lost his life after a brave fight with cancer earlier this year.  He was also a Trustee of the BBA, as am I.

Some people might think that barristers don't need charity.  But I can tell you that they do and often in alarming circumstances.  We try and help fellow barristers who are in need, for whatever reason. The job of a barrister is challenging and stressful and often not as well paid as the newspapers would have us think.

The BBA tries to help barristers and their families through difficult times, whether caused by financial hardship or ill health.  As a profession we all owe it to ourselves to look after those not as fortunate as ourselves, so please dig deep.

I am running in memory of Fred, not just because he was a friend and a colleague but because the BBA exists to help out in just this sort of situation.  He leaves his wife Ann and three children.  He put alot into the profession, as his involvement with the BBA proves and I would ask that you make whatever contribution you feel that you can to a great cause.

Thanks!
