Donations to the Friends of St. Monica’s Hospital support the work of the hospital over and above that provided by the NHS. We also support health and social care projects in the wider community areas covered by the GP surgeries of Ampleforth, Easingwold, Hovingham, Stillington and Tollerton.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 4th August I will travel to The Isle of Mull, and then to the tiny island of Erraid, where I plan to spend the night in the fashion of a shipwrecked soul. Early in the morning of 6th August, I will cross the Erraid Sound and begin a 3-week walk across some of Scotland’s wildest and most remote terrain. Some 435km, with over 12,000m of ascent, solo and unsupported, and broadly following the route taken by David Balfour in RL Stevenson’s ‘Kidnapped’. It’s a long distance walk beyond anything I have done so far, and it’s something of a new and unexplored route. It’s called The Stevenson Way, and I’ll be walking it in aid of St Monica’s Hospice at Easingwold. Starting on the 6th August, the date of my mum‘s death, and journeying for 3 weeks, I plan to arrive in Edinburgh on the 26th August - the fateful day my dad was admitted to the hospice, and soon after ended his life in the very bed mum had previously laid in. I aim to raise £1000 for the Friends of St Monica’s Hospice, and with your support, and the support of my trusty legs, I will do just that…
