Mary Hare is a national charity for deaf children. Mary Hare School educates 200 deaf children without the use of sign language and is the largest non-maintained special school in the UK. We also provide music therapy services and the Burwood Centre offers independent assessments of deaf children.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

There are lots of new approaches that can help deaf children
and young people to learn more easily, or improve their language skills.

Mary Hare Primary School, where my workplace is based, has
seen an increase in numbers in recent years. This is really positive, but it’s meant that another classroom has had to be created. And the room that’s been taken over was previously used by the whole school as its IT room.

The school’s current computers are static and outdated,
meaning they can’t now be accessed by other classes throughout the school. The school urgently needs to replace them with a suite of tablets and keyboards which can be easily moved around the school as and when each class needs them.

Mary Hare’s fully qualified Teachers of the Deaf work extremely hard to develop each child's language skills to a level which is comparable with their hearing peers. To do this they rely heavily on the pupils having access to IT as part of their teaching. So this project will really help
the teachers to develop each pupil's language skills.
