Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. This year I am running in the London Marathon on Sunday 21 April and Edinburgh Marathon Sunday 26 May. It will be my first London Marathon and my eleventh Edinburgh Marathon. It is always difficult to get a place in London but this year I got a good for age place so there are some advantages in being 50!. I always like to run for a charity as it makes all the hard training worthwhile. This year I am running London with my friend Carol who I have been training with she is hoping to get a sub 3.30 she says if I follow her and don't go too fast at the start I should also be able to get that sort of time but I am not so sure all depends what happens on the day and if I can get some rest this week which is impossible when working at Warners!. Anyway positive thinking and as long as I finish I will be happy. I know all my friends have been very supportive over the years so if you would like to donate this year for a most worthycause I would be most grateful. I will let you know how I get on in both events.
London Marathon well unfortunately this was not so good, things did not go to plan. I knew by 13 miles that it was not my day I just felt very tired and was finding it impossible to keep up the fast pace of 8 minute miles which I was aiming for, by 20 miles I was finished and had to stop for 10 minutes at 23 miles I got severe cramp in my legs from running faster than usual and not drinking enough. I did finish in 4hrs 9 mins my worst time ever I was very disapointed as well as being in great pain. At the finish I said never again I am hanging up my shoes this is just not for me my running days are over. However two weeks later my shoes were on again and with a new training regime I ran the 20 mile Edinburgh to North Berwick Road race in 2 hrs 54 mins not a great time as I went at a slower and steady pace and felt fine at the end which was great as it was less than 2 weeks after London.
I am all set for Edinburgh Sunday 26th May will be going at a slower pace and drinking more so hopefully I will manage to complete in under the 4 hrs I need to do this so I can get a place for London again next year.
On the 8th June I am competing in a 30 mile ultra marathon so my running days are not over yet.
