Story
We've all heard the statistics, 1 in 2 of us will get cancer in our lifetime but somehow you still don't believe it'll be you or someone you love until that diagnosis comes knocking. It was last November when my Mum popped round unexpectedly and revealed that she had just been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It felt like time stood still as we waited to hear the treatment plan and prognosis, just that single word cancer can fill you with so much fear.
Lucky feels like the wrong word considering how brutal chemotherapy and cancer treatments can be but I am beyond grateful that Mum's cancer was treatable and after an incredibly long and gruelling 10 months she's set to beat this horrible disease.
This was only possible due to the research that charities like Cancer Research had already done but we've still got so far to go. Funding research will mean in the future the C word will no longer change families lives in an instant, it will no longer instil such fear and pain; Every cancer will be survivable and treatments won't be as brutal and painful.
This is the future I want to contribute to and that's why I'm running the London Marathon. It's always been a dream of mine, something I watch on TV every year and think maybe one day but I'll stick to the park run for now. Well this is the year, this is for my Mum who went through hell and came out the other side, if she can do that I can run a marathon.
I know everything is so expensive right now and people are struggling but if you have any money to spare I would be so grateful if you could donate to my page. Together we help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
