Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In July I will be running 100km to try to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease care, research and to raise awareness. Motor neurone disease is a devastating condition that causes progressive muscle weakness and wasting, and leads to paralysis. It is currently untreatable and the only treatment available prolongs life by 3months.
3 years ago I began working as a research scientist within a team based at the institute of neurology, London. Our aims are to investigate the underlying causes of MND, hoping that our work would be able to guide future therapeutic strategies. Here I have witnessed the devasting impact that MND has - those affected are rapidly stripped of the ability to do all the tasks we take for granted every day, such as walking, playing sports, eating. On the other hand I have also seen, and been part of, the huge progression in research behind MND. Therefore I want to raise money for MNDA so that both the support for those affected by MND and the groundbreaking research that is currently going on can be continued so that in the future we will have earlier and more accurate diagnosis, increased awareness and one day a cure for MND.
