Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

WAYNE IS NOW JUMPING TOO!!

This is our story:

Our beautiful baby boy, George Arthur Simon Menhams was born on Monday 25th May 2020 at 07:40 weighing a healthy 7lbs 1oz, at 40+1 weeks and after being induced. He was absolutely perfect and immediately stole our hearts. We was finally a family that we had longed to be! This was by far the best day of our lives!

Whilst growing in his mummy's tummy our little boy was perfectly fine and when he was born this seemed to be the case. Six hours after giving birth we was on our way home as a family, looking forward to all the plans we had spend the last 10 months planning. After a few hours of having George home we noticed he was struggling to take feeds and had the shakes (seizures), the midwife came the next day and was concerned so we went into hospital to be checked for low blood sugar (told we would be home within 20 minutes - this was sadly not the case at all).

On arrival at hospital, George was checked and we was told it was due to feeding so was taking onto the wards for support, during this time, George had started being sick after every feed and was gradually become more sick but no-one knew why..!

One the Thursday afternoon, day 3 of life we got transferred to intensive care where George was pumped with lots of medication but we still didn't know what was wrong with our by now very sick baby boy. It was so hard to watch and we just felt so helpless.. our consultants spoke to different consultations/doctors from other hospitals including Great Ormond Street hospital with no luck in finding is issue.

By Friday, George was suffering from multiple organ failure and having already had 3 cardac arrests, we made the impossible decision that our baby boy had suffered enough and if (when) he has another arrest, he would say our final goodbyes and yet him rest and sleep because at what point do you stop being selfish because you want your baby boy in your arms forever and think logically that it is not fair on him anymore.

George sadly fell asleep on Saturday 30th May 2020 at 4:24am. This was by far the absolute worst day of our lives and life hasn't got much better since.

We think about our little boy everyday and we cry, we smile but we miss him so much. Words cannot begin to describe the pain and heartache we are going through. Time is no healer, it helps you learn to cope but we will never ever get over this hurt and to be honest we wouldn't want to because that would mean we are over George and that will never ever ever happen. He will always be our first born baby and he has left such a massive hole in our lives which will never be filled.

We found out on day 8 that George had a genetic condition called MCADD, a metabolic condition which normally occurs when the child is between 3-6 months and picked up on the 5 day heel prick checks but George was rare to have it flare up at newborn. He had every symptom of it but it is unusual in newborns so wasn't picked up. George very sadly passed of Multiple Organ Failure Due To Metabolic Condition.

We want to build a legacy in our George's name and to start I want to do a charity skydive for SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death charity) they have supported me a lot with my grieving process and I need to raise at least £430! I know this can be done as we have amazing family and friends to help us!

Sadly, due to both Covid and personal reasons our skydive has been delayed until 9th January 2021! We are truly overwhelmed by the amount we have raised. Thank you all so much! We cannot wait to fly with our boy!
