Story

The staff on ward 2 are taking part in a virtual bike ride challenge. We aim to cycle virtually using an exercise bike based on the ward and taking turns, ride from Lands End to John O'Groats with a few added destinations along the way. Any donations made will go towards a mural for Ward 2's garden, where we're aiming to create a beautiful, peaceful and tranquil atmosphere for our patients and relatives within the end-of-life care ward. We will start our journey at Lands End and cycle to the Sir Robert Peel Hospital in Tamworth. From there we head to the Samuel Johnson Hospital in Lichfield and then on to Queens Hospital in Burton Upon Trent. Next it's the Royal Derby Hospital finishing our detour at the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital before continuing the journey to John O'Groats. In total cycling a grand total of 985 miles!!! Ward 2 is a non-specialist palliative care ward for people approaching the end of their life. We are a 14 single bedded ward offering a calm, safe and tranquil environment away from the bustle of a big acute hospital. Based at the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital (London Road) we offer support to those nearing the end of their life for not only for themselves but to their loved ones too. We first opened back in January 2020 and thanks to the hard work and dedication of an amazing, passionate and highly driven team, we were awarded Dual Accreditation in June and have been shortlisted for Community Hospital Team of the Year for the UHDB Making a Difference Award. Not only that, we have also been shortlisted for a HSJ Patient Safety Award, something we are all very proud of.
