We provide an advanced trauma team to seriously injured people in London

Story

On Monday 8th December 2014 one of our colleagues was knocked off her bike whilst cycling to work on the junction between Clerkenwell Road and St John Street near our offices in Farringdon

A team from London’s Air Ambulance was on the scene in five minutes in a fast-response car. Its helicopter was at another emergency but when that patient died it returned to the Royal London to re-stock exhausted blood supplies and flew to Clerkenwell.

At the scene, Vicky underwent emergency surgery to stem the haemorrhage from her crushed pelvis and prevent cardiac arrest.

She was then transported to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel and underwent a further 6 surgeries in the following 5 days including the amputation of her left leg.

Vicky spent 8 weeks in hospital at the Royal London and a further 6 undergoing an intensive rehab programme at Queen Marys in Roehampton.

We owe the London Air Ambulance a debt of gratitude as without them and the amazing staff at the Royal London, Vicky would not be here to tell her tale.

The London Air Ambulance is a charity and relies on donations to ensure the service is available. LAA serves the 10 million people who live, work and travel within the M25 and they only have one helicopter - which has to undergo maintenance and last year spent 55 days out of service.

We are running this event and others to raise funds for a much needed second helicopter - please do what you can to help!
