Story
As many of you will know in 2019 I lost my Dad to cancer. He was diagnosed around this time last year and passed away whilst holding my hand, just before midnight on 22nd July. The disease affected his oesophagus, liver, and adrenal glands. He deteriorated unbelievably quickly and was only in hospital for around a week before he died.
This year I was meant to be riding the London-Surrey 100 in aid of Cancer Research UK. The event has been cancelled due to Covid but I am still going to ride 100 miles around Hertfordshire on the 22nd July to commemorate his death. Cycling has a special meaning as Dad had always loved the sport, we went for a ride just before he got too ill and he could still beat me up the hills aged 66. When he was in hospital the Tour de France was the only thing he wanted to watch on his iPad, unfortunately he didn’t make it long enough to see who won that year.
For my birthday this year (24th June) I would love for people to donate towards all the great work Cancer Research UK are doing to stop this from happening to more people like my Dad in the future. This year they have had to cut around £44 million worth of research because of Covid, urgent referrals are also down 60% from last year. This all adds up to many more people losing loved ones to this horrible disease. Around 165,000 people die from cancer in the UK every year, that’s 450 people every day.
I would really appreciate any small donations and please feel free to share this page.
