For me it's a simple fact - If it wasn't down to the phenomenal work of this charity, I wouldn't be here. When I was born I arrived 10 weeks early and, as such, spent a couple of months linked up to life saving equipment in an incubator. I had serious issues with my lungs but thanks to the dedication of the wonderful staff at the (then named) Yorkhill Children's Hospital I was helped to make a full recovery and I and my family will be forever in their debt. 

The irony that I now make a living out of being a classical singer is not lost on me, although I do sometimes wonder if there's a connection to my prematurity when I run out of breath on that top C (or if I'm just not working hard enough...more likely I think). With my own baby on the way, in the last year I've made a conscious effort to increase my fitness and my lung capacity and so I started running in January 2018. I didn't know how if I'd take to it but the short answer is, I'm now addicted. I ran a total of 8 x 10K races in 2018 (setting a PB on all but my final race of the year) and did my first half Marathon in Cardiff (finishing in 1hr 53 mins and 50secs). I continue to train regularly and the effect on my overall health is so positive so this year I'm keen to push myself further with new challenges. 

On 16th June I'll be running the Glasgow Men's 10K for Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity. As you can tell, my connection with the charity is a very personal one and I am really looking forward to raising as much money as I can for them but for now I've set the bar at £100.00. I would appreciate any donation you can spare, small or large. For me the work of this charity is incredible because day in day out they are saving the lives of children in Scotland, setting them up for a better future.

My current PB for the 10K is 47mins and 30secs but I'm going to be pushing hard (on very little sleep I'm sure with the arrival of baby Bryce) and hope to smash this time and achieve a sub 47mins race.
