Getting to the ripe old age of 95 is most likely something we all strive for. However late last year my 95 year old Nan unfortunately had 2 falls in the space of 3 days, which caused a once vigilant,  bright and witty woman to become frail, forgetfull and fully dependent on others, due to a fractured hip. She was advised to have  a hip replacement , which was very frightening for us all , knowing she may not recover frim the operation.  Thankfully due to the amazing staff at NGH she is back at home,  however in contined pain,  unable to walk, feed herself properly or make a cup of tea. They say this is the forgotten generation, one which we will all be part of one day. Please let's not forget they were once young, now all they have is memories,  some not even that, so this year I am, with the help of some amazing new found friends , taking on one of the biggest challenges of my life.  I'm running my first half marathon , I'm doing this for help the age and to help the very stretched orthopaedic departments within the NHS. My Nan and others like her are so inspirational and strong they deserve unconditional care and support and recognition for how resilient they are.
