Story
Who are we?
We are small group of local Colne Valley residents who have come together to form a community group which will support a refugee family settle in our area. Our voluntary group will work in collaboration with the charity, Citizens UK, to welcome a family that is fleeing their own country due to war or persecution and is currently living in a refugee camp. Our goal is to provide a refugee family with a welcoming home where they can rebuild their lives.
How does it work?
Community Sponsorship is a safe and legal route to claiming refugee status in the UK through an established Home Office scheme. As a community group we will provide practical and emotional support to the family to help them rebuild their lives and become self-sufficient members of our community. In order to this scheme our group must:
- Find appropriate housing for the family
- Raise £9000 to support the family when they first arrive in the UK
- Support the family with access to education, healthcare and employment
- Support the family with English language tuition and translation services
