Thank you for your support
The Lupus Golf Day is a fantastic way for local businesses and individuals to support a truly worthwhile charity...as well as having a really fun day! If you wish to attend this years golf day please contact Honor: Honor@commotiondistribution.co.uk, 01732 773 399.
The day was inspired by Louise Coote, a Lupus sufferer who lost her battle with the disease in 1995 at the age of 31. Throughout her short life Louise refused to be incapacitated by her health and did much to promote the problems of Lupus sufferers. Set up in 1995 the golf day celebrates the life and courage of this remarkable woman and raises much needed funds for the charity she supported so the fight for a cure can continue.
Lupus is now recognised as an important and common illness of modern times, affecting 1 in every 750 females. It is a disease in which the immune system becomes overactive. It can affect any organ of the body. Because the symptoms can be so diverse, including for example; fatigue, rashes, allergies, depression and kidney failure, it is called the 'great mimic'. All ages can be affected, but the commonest suffers are young females, the peak ages being between 18 and 45.
The outlook for most sufferers, given the correct treatment, has improved beyond recognition in recent years.
The aims of the St Thomas' Lupus Trust are to raise awareness of systemic lupus erythematosus among the general public and medical professionals and to support the research programme at our hospitals. The research aims to understand how the abnormal immune system causes the disease. Their work is divided into teaching, research and clinical work, and there are now over 5000 patients on the register of the Louise Coote Lupus Unit.
