Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have been given the fantastic opportunity to work overseas as a volunteer for ICS & Y Care International in Sierra Leone from October till December.
When I found ICS, who work closely with Y Care and many other organisations like VSO in sending young volunteers to places like Sierra Leone, Liberia and Bangladesh to help others in poverty and poor communities I just thought this is to good not to do, what really attracted me to wanting to work overseas is the opportunity to help others have a better life. Knowing you have had a positive impact on someone else's life is a great feeling, I hope to achieve that with Y Care and ICS. Y Care do great work in some of the poorest communities, they work to provide clean water and food aid, build suitable educational facilities for children and give them the education they need and provide health information and services to people so they can stay healthy. Y Care do a lot of work to help those in need rise from poverty.
I think this is a really great time for me to experience another countries culture, but most of all to remind myself to be grateful for the freedoms and privileges I have here in the UK and to not take anything for granted as people in countries like Sierra Leone do not have the same luxuries or quality of life that I have. I have no doubt this will be a great chance for me to help others achieve a better quality of life and make a difference.
In terms of the work I will be doing abroad is teaching young people vocabulary English, hygiene and sanitation and giving them the skills they need to go into further education or find work, Sierra Leone has a large population of young people who don't have the same education privileges as we do.
Thank you for taking time to read my story! and a massive thank you to any donations made. I cannot thank you enough!
