Story
If you have recently had your Covid vaccination or are due to have one soon, please 'pass it forward' - you got the jab, so gift a jab!
No matter how small or how big your donation, it is so very much appreciated. Thank you for helping save lives and urgently helping deliver the largest health and logistics operation the world has seen.
Many of us will not need to pay for our Covid vaccine thanks to our wonderful NHS but would like to pay forward the gift of protection - to health care workers and the vulnerable across the poorest nations, those on the front line, for them to have the same chance of survival and protection from Covid-19 as we do.
Unicef is playing a crucial role in the Covid vaccination drive - to ensure the poorest countries have access to safe and effective Covid vaccines. Working alongside partners, including COVAX (the vaccine element), the World Health Organisation, Gavi the Global Vaccine Alliance, governments, health organisations and others, Unicef is already on the ground, procuring, distributing and administering approved vaccines into arms - all through the support of donors like us.
In accordance with guidance from the World Health Organisation, health workers, alongside the most vulnerable, are being targeted in the first wave of the COVAX vaccination initiative, ensuring they can work in safety whilst helping to get essential and life-saving services back on track for some of the world's poorest communities.
Only through ensuring that the world’s poorest countries have the same opportunity as richer countries in urgently vaccinating their health workers and vulnerable can we end the pandemic and its devastating impact on everyone.
In 2021, Unicef will deliver 2 billion vaccines, 245 million therapeutics and 500 million tests as well as support countries to prepare and deliver the world’s most extensive and fastest ever vaccination operation. Your donation helps do this!
If those in the UK who have already had their NHS vaccine donated just £1 each, to date, we could raise £30 million so please, please pass it forward #gotthejab #giftajab
One world, one love…with gratitude,
Aiysha xx
Why Unicef and Covax?
Unicef is equipped to match the enormity of this global operation - with a presence in over 190 countries, they already deliver nearly 2.5 billion doses of health vaccines annually to some of the hardest to reach places on the planet. Unicef has the knowledge and systems needed to succeed in ensuring all countries have equal access to the Covid vaccine.
As the largest vaccine buyer in the world, with a vast country presence and decades of experience in supplying and preparing countries and communities for immunisation programmes, UNICEF will play a critical role in the rollout of COVID 19 vaccines through COVAX, catalysing a global recovery. COVAX is the vaccines element of ACT-A. Led by Gavi, the Global Vaccine Alliance, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and World Health Organisation (WHO), it aims to accelerate the development and manufacture of Covid-19 vaccines, and to guarantee fair and equitable access globally.
Unicef is leading the procurement and supply of COVID-19 vaccines—as well as freight, logistics and storage—for 92 low-and middle-income countries, and a buffer stockpile for humanitarian emergencies. This will be supported by donor funds. UNICEF will also support procurement by 98 higher-income economies who will finance the vaccines from their own public finance budgets. In parallel, UNICEF is working to secure access to safe injection equipment and cold chain equipment, to support a rapid rollout of COVID-19 vaccines.
