Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. My name is Craig Jackson and I am 42, Dad of 3. I am running The London Marathon this April 2023 in honour of my beautiful daughter Edie who sadly lost her battle against cancer in 2021.

Edie was diagnosed with DIPG, an inoperable, terminal brain tumour in 2019. Edie battled with the disease as best as she could with strength, dignity and always the biggest smile on her face. Unfortunately Edie left us in January 2021 leaving the biggest hole in our life.

Young lives vs Cancer is a charity that helps families going through cancer treatment with their child or young person. I am honoured to be running in order to raise money for such an amazing support.

Charities like these would not exist if people like you did not help donate to keep the resources they so desperately need in place.

These Charities help families like ours through the toughest of times through support networks and resources to help children, young people and their families navigate the worse times of their lives.

When a child is diagnosed with cancer it threatens everything, for them and their family. At a time when they should be busy being children, enjoying their rollercoaster teenage years or finding their feet at uni, life becomes full of fear. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, of overwhelming money worries, mental health stretched to breaking point, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.

Young Lives vs Cancer are the charity that helps children and young people (0-25) and their families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them.

The charity appreciates that everyone is different & works hard to make sure each family has what they need to get through cancer. It could be a financial grant for a parent struggling to keep their child warm through their treatment or for a young person who can’t afford to get to hospital. Or helping a family stay together at one of our free Homes from Home close to the hospital where their child is having treatment.

And if we think families aren’t being heard by the whole system, we’re not afraid to raise their voices or shout on their behalf. Children and young people with cancer deserve the same opportunities as anyone else. We’ll always have their back, because we’ve been there before.

The ethos of the charity rings true to myself and my family. By raising as much money as possible in Edie’s name I believe this support network can help lesson the burden we know too well.
