Story

Earlier this month I walked by myself from Newquay to Land's End (and from there to Porthcurno) on the South West Coast Path with everything I needed to camp at campsites along the way on my back in my rucksack.

Day 1. Newquay to Perranporth

Day 2. Perranporth to Porthtowan

Day 3. Porthtowan to Gwithian

Day 4. Gwithian to St Ives

[I then had two rest days in St Ives to explore.]

Day 5. St Ives to Pendeen Watch

Day 6. Pendeen Watch to Land's End

Day 7. Land's End to Porthcurno

I walked 10+ miles each day on the SW Coast Path to get between these places (and then another mile or so to get to the campsite I had booked for that particular day and place). These distances are broken down roughly on the SW Coast Path website as follows:

Town                                                   Distance from Newquay (station)

Crantock                                              4.1 miles [6.6km]

Porth Joke                                           6.0 miles [9.6km]

Holywell                                              8.1 miles [13.0km]

Perranporth                                         12.6 miles [20.2km]

Trevaunance Cove (for St Agnes)       16.5 miles [26.5km]

St Agnes Head                                     18.1 miles [29.1km]

Chapel Porth                                       19.7 miles [31.7km]

Porthtowan                                         20.9 miles [33.6km]

Portreath                                             24.9 miles [40.1km]

Godrevy Point                                     31.1 miles [50.0km]

Gwithian                                             32.5 miles [52.3km]

Hayle                                                   36.7 miles [59.0km]

Lelant                                                  38.9 miles [62.6km]

St Ives                                                 42.8 miles [68.8km]

Zennor Head                                       49.2 miles [79.2km]

Gurnard's Head                                   51.3 miles [82.5km]

Bosigran Cliff                                      53.3 miles [85.8km]

Pendeen Watch                                  56.4 miles [90.8km]

Cape Cornwall                                     60.4 miles [97.2km]

Cot Valley (for Lands End YHA)          61.4 miles [98.8km]

Sennen Cove                                       65.6 miles [105.5km]

Land's End                                           66.8 miles [107.5km]

Porthgwarra                                        70.6 miles [113.6km]

The distance from Newquay to Porthcurno is 72 miles. I actually ended up hiking nearer to 90 miles in total.

I want my walk this month to raise money for SRASAC because the services they offer are important ones: the counselling, helpline, and ISVA teams are platforms where worries are not only voiced but also heard and addressed, and this is something that, I believe, can - and does - make all the difference.

Information from SRASAC's website about the services that fundraising helps fund:

£1 keeps our helpline open for 1 hour

£10  pays for 1 Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for one of our volunteers.  This helps us recruit the right volunteers and prevents
unsuitable people from working with our clients.

£35 keeps the Centre open for 1 day paying for costs related to the building.

£45 pays for one face to face counselling sessions – which we strive to keep free for all our clients.

About the charity

Sheffield Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (also known as Sheffield Rape Crisis) is a specialist service offering free and confidential support to help to empower anyone (over 13 years old) who has experienced rape or sexual abuse at any times in their lives.
