Story
I'm sure you're aware that there was a recent #Defibuary campaign on Twitter, highlighting where defibrillators were in our local community. It was noted that there is only one 24hr public access defibrillator in the Cynon Valley at Aberdare RFC. The defibrillators are an essential, invaluable piece of equipment to save lives.
Wales suffers one of the highest premature mortality rates for Coronary Heart Disease in the world, and Rhondda Cynon Taf has the worst rates in Wales.
The modern defibrillator machines are extremely smart, providing diagnoses, careful, simple visual and audio instruction prompts and they have built in safety features which prevent inappropriate or incorrect use. As such they are designed for use by non-medical, inexperienced members of the public.
Cynon Neighbourhood Police Team are working with local schools, sports clubs, organisations, Fire Service and small businesses to fund-raise for defibrillators in our communities, with the support of Welsh Hearts. We're even taking part in the Cardiff Men's Health 'Survival of the Fittest' on the 24th September 2017 to raise funds (a 10k obstacle course).
By working together to place these in our communities, we can all have the pride of knowing we saved a life and the confidence cofidence to use a defibrillator if the need ever arises.
