Story
In short I am passionate about the Earth!
Over the past 3 years I’ve been becoming more aware of the devastating environmental footprint that humans leave on the Earth, in response I have lessened my own. The 2 big lifestyle changes I have made have been becoming a vegetarian and moving towards a zero waste lifestyle. Now I want to continue this journey through fundraising. I want to raise money for Greenpeace, an independent charity, who fights to stop climate change, defend oceans, protect forests and save the Arctic. To do this I will doing the PureChallenge Yorkshire 3 peaks, 24.5 miles in 1 day.
Here are a few facts that might inspire you to support me!
The science is absolutely clear: Earth's climate has already warmed by about 1° Celsius. Without new actions to tackle the problem, 4.8° Celsius of warming is possible by the end of this century. That would pose very high risks to people and nature. Millions of people would be displaced, food supplies threatened, and many unique ecosystems around the world would die out.
Mature forests store enormous quantities of carbon, both in the trees and vegetation itself and within the soil in the form of decaying plant matter. But eighty per cent of them have already been destroyed or degraded, and the remaining forests are under threat.
Our beautiful oceans are home to a staggering 80% of life on Earth. However, right now an estimated 12.7 million tonnes of plastic – everything from plastic bottles and bags to microbeads – end up in our oceans each year. That’s a truck load of rubbish a minute.
Let’s help Greenpeace restore our Earth!
