Story

In memory of Max Kingsland 1944 - 2016

In April 2014 my amazing Uncle Max was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease - an incurable, rapidly progressing neurological disorder. It effects movement and symptoms include muscle wastage, paralysis of limbs, inability to speak, inability to swallow and finally inability to breathe.

The diagnosis was devastating to him and my family. Initially I was in shock but soon I decided to do something positive to channel my upset and anger.

Since January 2015 I have been supported by an amazing group of family and friends to complete a number of events to raise vital funds.

In January 2015 we hosted a Quiz night and auction at Wimbledon Rugby club - a fantastic evening and £3652.11 raised!

In February 2015 we ran the Hampton Court Half marathon and raised £1874.93!

In September 2015 I swam the Solent (Isle of Wight to Portsmouth!) with my two best friends Jess and Laura and we raised £3211.85!

In October 2015 I hosted a comedy night at the Tattershall Castle on the Embankment in London and raised £2220!

So in 10 months of fundraising we raised just short of £11,000!!

Unfortunately after 22 months of fighting this horrid disease my Uncle Max passed away in February 2016 and I made the promise that I will continue to make him proud of all that I do and raise £30,000 by 2019 (my 30th birthday!)
