Story
If you have come this far then please don’t STOP we need your support. On Saturday the 13 of April the three of us ‘Dan Murphy, Oli Finn and Ben Sargison’ team DOB will be pulling on our Lycra and hopping on the saddles of trusted bicycles and leaving LONDON destined for LYMINGTON in the New Forest.
Why you ask? SIMPLE – it’s for MS (Multiple Sclerosis). Now MS is a disease which affects the central nervous system, which is made up of the ‘brain, spinal cord and optic nerves’. Symptoms can range from mild numbness in limbs to severe cases of paralysis. We don’t want to give you the full medical low down on this disease and its chronic disabling symptom but if you do want to learn more then please take a look at the official MS Site at: www.mssociety.org.uk
What we do however want to tell you is WHY we have chosen MS and WHAT it means to us both on a wider group basis but also individually. As a team one of our closest friends a mother of two still in her twenties has MS, Dan’s aunt has MS and as does a close school friend of Oli’s also in his late twenties with a young baby. For Ben this is not his first contribution to helping MS as he some years ago assisted on a Voluntary basis in one of the MS charity shops. What team DOB, and our friends have found hard is the physical affect that MS has on those we care about. We have seen and spent time with those diagnosed with the disease before the diagnosis was made and since the onset progression and to see the affects it has from not being able to hold a pen and write to not being able walk without the aid of a stick or requiring the use of a wheelchair. These are people that we have seen paint, write, and dance, walk and run to having simple bodily functions and independence taken away from them in the prime of their youth and parenthood!
So as a team, overall in excellent health we want to put ourselves through a day of saddle and leg burning pain so raise some exceptionally valuable money as a sign of our support towards our friends and family and the wider MS sufferers community. To whatever you feel you can PLEASE donate a contribution towards the MS society and our gruelling long distance 90+ mile cycle ride. Additionally any support during the day and at the finish point would be gratefully embraced.
In advance a huge thank you from Team DOB
