Earlier this year, my wonderful, loving, caring Mum, aged just 62 passed away. She was taken too young, a Nanny to 3 young grandchildren, a lady who should have had many more happy years ahead of her. She was a victim of the indiscriminate, heart wrenching, destructive disease that is cancer.

My Mum was a full of life character who always smiled but in her final weeks, she deteriorated rapidly and needed support, the type of support that words can only begin to describe.

She was admitted to Katharine House Hospice. Mum had had a long history with cancer, she has fought it before and been given the all clear but this time it had stuck around. She had been fighting for many years and had visited the hospice before as a day patient. Here she found friends, enjoyment and expertise.

The care, knowledge, friendship and honesty provided by the staff enabled my Mum to spend her last days surrounded by those she loved with dignity and in peace and for the family, the honesty and thoughtfulness meant an unbelievable amount.

Without Katharine House Hospice I dread to think what would have happened to Mum. Whilst the destination may have been decided, Mum's journey there was as calm as we could have wished for. There were no bumps in the road, turbulence or unexpected problems and that is all thanks to Katharine House.

Katharine House is a charity that needs all the help it can get. It costs £50.00 per day to provide the meals for 10 patients, £225.00 to care for an inpatient for 24 hours and £7000.00 for all the hospice care services for 24 hours. 

As they say, every penny counts and by training hard, I hope to complete both the Paris Marathon (April) and the Snowdon Marathon (July) in aid of Katharine House so, if you can spare a penny or two please make use of this page and donate to this unbelievable cause.
