Story
I suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2013 as do thousands of people across the UK every year. Headway has branches all around Britain to help support these people and their families.
Sustaining a brain injury is unimaginably difficult and can be hard to deal with - for the person who has a brain injury as well as their families and loved ones who have to comprehend that the person that they once knew and their lives will never be the same. That could be in the form of a physical disability, such as being unable to walk, unable to dress and feed yourself to a drastic change in personality or memory loss.
Headway provides help in the community with advice and nurses who will come and give assistance at the drop of a hat, as well as having a helpline in operation all throughout the working week.
They have even set up a Headway emergency fund which helps to cover the cost of any modifications needed in the home to support the brain injury victim, to helping to cover the cost of carers, whether full-time or part-time, to even helping to cover the cost of transportation to hospital and neurological centres if the family has no other way of visiting.
Other members at Headway branches provide invaluable guidance on everything they have experienced in relation to brain injury, from ways to best get support from doctors and therapists in the area to advice on how to handle social situations when people don't realise that a person may have a hidden disability.
The stories that people send in to Headway expressing their gratitude for their help explains how crucial Headway is in a far superior way than I ever could. Please help Headway to improve lives after brain injury.
