Thank you for considering sponsoring me – I am doing this 5 day trek to raise funds for The Kenward Trust which are a charity based in Yalding which provide a residential rehab programme for men and women with addiction.
What better way than to do a little trek, whilst wearing my sunglasses to say ‘yay, I did it’ when I get to the top!!
Or so I thought…..
Once I had paid my deposit I then read what the trek was all about – I know that was probably a daft thing to do, but I was lulled into a false sense of security - Difficulty Rating – HARD……That’s not what I was expecting
• 2 days camping in a tent
• Mount Toubkal the highest mountain in North Africa 4,167m.
• Altitude Sickness
• 7 – 10 hours walking per day
Not only do I have a fear of heights which is brought out just by standing on a chair, but camping is probably my least favourite activity which may turn me into the ‘Wild Woman of Morocco’ – those that know me well know that I have uncontrollable hair which can only be tamed with a hairdryer, straighteners and at least 40 minutes! I get the feeling that there isn’t going to be power sockets, mirrors or the time. Actually, I know there won’t be, but I will embrace it, get to know nature and leave my eyebrows in the UK!
So! I have every intention of doing live facebook feeds from a mountain – signal willing – but if I cannot there will be videos to keep you all updated on my progress.
Joking aside – this is really important to me to raise money for The Kenward Trust, funding is diminishing, people are not getting the care that they need or deserve and the community based model for addiction is being adopted by lots of local authorities as it is cheaper. Whilst this may help some that need it, it doesn’t work for everyone and those with complex mental health needs will still need more help than that.
I am paying for this trip myself so every £1 you donate will go directly to the charity and help someone that needs it – I am hoping to raise at least £750 which will pay for 1 week of rehab. This trip isn’t about me and any achievement of my own – I’m doing this climb for everyone that has ever struggled with mental health issues and/or addiction in all of its forms.
I have just read that there are 67 days to go… Wish me luck, I think (I know) I may need it!!
