Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Many ‘in vogue’ charities are very well supported. Quite right, everything helps, however.....

While some attitudes have improved mental health is still a bit of a taboo subject.

I have had depression for a number of years now, at times I have found it debilitating.  Sometimes I want to hide from the world for days on end. I am hoping that by giving up alcohol during October I will not only help myself, but also in my own little way help others.

A lot of these fund raising things go on, as said though, very few for this type of charity. Anything from a £1 upwards would help, £10 even better 😉

Advice I was given recently was, if you suffer from depression or stress don’t hide or try and hide it, speak to people. While not everyone understands it has amazed me the amount of people who have had the same sort of illness or are close to someone who has. Talking has helped me get this far, being completely open

Over the years I have lost friends who haven’t understood why I have acted in the way I have. At times I have been withdrawn, not wanted to go out at the last minute or defensive for no real reason. I realise now talking about why I feel that way makes such a difference. I don’t blame them at all, I should have spoke out more

I have missed out on many things over the years, because I didn’t speak out about my illness. Let’s help this charity to stop that happening to others.
