Story

Update 11th April 2011

Well yesterday was certainly an eventful day & I'm now officially a marathoner!.

It was hot, hot, hot which made life a little interesting but after a long, slow and not so pretty 6 hours 9 minutes and 4 seconds I crossed the finish line of the 2nd Brighton Marathon.

Thankyou to all of you who have supported me through the long training months and on Sunday itself you've all been invaluable & of course to everone that has dug deep into their pockets and given in support of the excellent work of the Martlets hospice. With online donations and pledges the total will break the £1000 and with gift-aid on-top i'm hoping we'll raise in excess of £1300.

Thankyou all so much that total is amazing!!.

I know some of you have been waiting to see whether I'd actually complete the marathon before pledging your hard earned money (I did wonder myself!) - Well now i've completed my adventure - so please consider making good on your pledges and please help me raise as much as possible for the great work the Martlets hospice does.

Many thanks yet again

Dave

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I think this might well be an early 'mid-life' crisis! - but i've gone and done it, by signing myself upto the challenge of running the 2011 Brighton marathon!.

From a complete non-runner i must say that although challenging the training has been surprisingly enjoyable (apart from the wind, rain, snow and Ice - let's forget about those!).

Apart from the personnal challenge of running 26.2 miles, I've also chosen to support an organisation that I have fond memories of and that provides a vital service to the population of Brighton and Hove.

My hope by running the marathon is to provoke family, friends, work colleagues and anyone else who comes across this page into digging deep in this time of financial restraint and to sponsor my efforts and by doing so help the work of The Martlets hospice.

As many of you may know I had the priviledge of working with the Martlets hospice as their clinical pharmacist for several years and can personally testify to the remarkable job they do in helping people to live life as fully as they can right up until the end. By using their expert clinical care they ensure that wherever possible peace, respect and calm remain for both patients and their family, friends and carers. Please help this fantastic and vital work, by donating in support of my Marathon in support of the hospice.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Many thanks once again for taking the time to visit my page and i hope that it has provoked you to sponsor my efforts in running the marathon and in doing so helping this worthy cause. So please dig deep and donate now.

Dave
