5.4 million children across the world are currently trapped in orphanages – even though 80% of them have family they could live with if they had the right support. Orphanages harm children, depriving them of love and exposing them to abuse. Your support helps us get children to back to family.

Story

What do you give the man that has everything? The simple answer is don't bother giving the old git anything and simply make a donation that will help to change a very young life in an amazing way once and for all.

Joking aside, I am lucky enough to have pretty much everything a man could wish for. In 2011/2012 I am working with Hope and Homes again to try and close an entire Moldovan baby orphanage called Tiraspol. In doing this 73 babies will move from a living hell and into a loving family.

As I said in the notes that accompanied my invitation to you, I do not expect a gift from anyone but if you were thinking about getting me something I would far rather you simply made a donation to this cause. Should you be interested, I have set out the full background of the project below. I have also gained agreement from St. James's Place that they will add 30% to anything that is donated in favour of the Tiraspol project and they will also make a contribution of 70% of anything donated into the St. James's Place Foundation which supports over 300 childrens charities.

Tiraspol

In 2011 and 2012 we have set ourselves an ambitious target of closing an entire institution in Moldova currently housing 73 babies. I have listed below the reasons for selecting this project.

  • When we went to Romania we were appalled to hear that babies in these Eastern European institutions are fed milk from bottles strapped to their pens just like guinea pigs. The result of this is that they lie on their sides searching for a teat which causes them to go cross – eyed and the spilt milk runs down their cheek into their ear eventually causing that ear to go deaf.
  • These babies receive little or no love, attention or nurturing.
  • 10% of these babies will go on to commit suicide.
  • One third will become criminals.
  • Two thirds will end up homeless.

To close the Tiraspol institution we need your help. Thank you for taking the time to read this text and for any help you are able to give us and hence the babies.
