Risking life and Limb for a Parkinson's Cure · 7 May 2010
Since I was a boy, I have been facinated by mountains and the sea. I've walked the hills and climbed on rocks all my life. I have no fear of heights. A few years ago, I sailed around the Horn and through the southern ocean as bow man on a racing yacht. My job was to go up the 85 ft mast, whatever the weather to sort out rigging problems. I loved it.
But now since Parkinson's joined in my life, I have a very serious fear of heights. It was one of the first signs that something was wrong with my balance and agility.
So what is the most challenging thing I can think to do. Yes. Abseil off a very tall building. I will be petrified. But I'll be keeping that to myself. I'm doing it to fund a cure for Parkinson's. Research is at a very important stage and money is needed right now. Even if you've given before, give again and again. What's a few pounds? You'll not miss it. It will be forgotten in a second. But the memory that you have helped to cure Parkinson's will live with you for ever. Please give generously.
