In 2007, I met Emily aged 17 who had Cystic Fibrosis which is a genetic condition that affects mostly the lungs but also the liver, kidneys, pancreas and digestive system.
Emily was diagnosed with the condition at 18 months old and was in and out of hospital during her short time on this earth with chest infections, lung issues and digestive complications.
She was a beautiful girl with a heart of gold and a lovely, sweet, kind and caring personality.Emily inspired many with her fight for life and her brave & courageous attitude during the most difficult and challenging times.
I had the honour of being married to Emily for 5 years from June 2010 until the day that she passed away on 11th June 2015 after she suffered Chronic Rejection of her donated lungs. I was then faced with the most difficult task of my life laying my wife to rest on our 5th year wedding anniversary at the age of 25.
I want to complete 10 challenges in 2017 in Emily's memory to mark the 10 year anniversary that I would have known her. I will be taking on the Reading Half Marathon, Born Survivor in Manchester with a group of friends, Edinburgh Marathon and 7 other events that I will decide on during the course of the year.
I will be hoping to raise as much money and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as possible to help the sufferers with their treatments, medication and physio, to help provide support for their family and friends during the many hospital visits and to hopefully fund research to find a vital cure for this life limiting and threatening condition.
