Introduction
Hello! I am back for round 2 after running a successful half Marathon in May 2018, for Children on the Edge, a charity that does brilliant work, internationally for Children in the most precarious of situations.
This time I have chosen to run for a charity much closer to home...
Youth Music! https://www.youthmusic.org.uk/
Why I think supporting our young local community is so important today!!
With Brexit, Trump and International scandals pervading our senses it is easy to forget the important things closer to home, our friends, families and communities. The political nightmare of the last several years has left young people side-lined with their voices unheard.
Regardless, it is the younger generation, who will have to pick the pieces and drive our world towards a brighter future. It is vital, that we support the younger generation to grow and flourish in whatever way they can and choose.
Running for Youth Music is my small contribution to this great collective effort and I hope to bring you with me along the way. :)
Youth Music: Who, Where and What!
Youth Music is a national charity investing in music-making projects that help children and young people aged 0-25 to develop personally and socially as well as musically.
They work particularly with those who don't get to make music because of who they are, where they live, or what they're going through.
Youth Music invests in more than 350 Youth Music Projects across England, which is around 89,000 children and Young People targetting:
- Economic Cold Spots
- NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training)
- The Youth Justice System
- Early Years (0 - 5 years of age)
- SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability)
Why
To be clear to all my wonderful donors, I am running both for personal reasons and professional ones.
My personal reasons stem from when I was growing up. Music has been a light of my life through school, university and still today where I play with friends and write my own tunes. The benefit of music, for someone who plays or appreciates it, is clear. It can help someone with a social sense of belonging, to build confidence, improve their mental health and help create a sense of identity.... the list could go on!
Professionally, I am blessed to be working for Youth Music as their new PA/ Administrator. It is a great privilege to work at Youth Music and to fundraise for them. Most importantly, it is great to hear, first-hand about the projects young people participate in through Youth Music.
I encourage everyone to check out the stories from our children and young people as they say it best!!
