Raleigh expedition · 31 December 2016 ·

We are a youth-driven organisation supporting a global movement of young people to take action. We exist to ignite youth-led action to create solutions to the world’s most urgent problems. We support young people by connecting them with the skills, networks, platforms and experiences to lead change.

Story

Hi all,

There has been a minor change to my role with Raleigh International. They have asked me to be one of their Team Leaders on the International Citizen Service scheme that they run on behalf of the UK's Department for International Development (http://www.ics-uk.org.uk/about/).

Essentially it's the same as a normal Raleigh expedition but instead of the Adventure and Environmental phases, I'm going to be purely focused on a Community-phase project. In addition, I will be based solely in Nicaragua. So your kind donations will continue to fund the same sort of great activities, just within a differently branded scheme!

Shoot me your queries if you have any.

David

Background

In September I will head to Nicaragua to volunteer as a Team Leader for 3 months with the registered UK charity, Raleigh International.

I will be one of the Team Leaders leading a group of young "Venturers", who are aged 17-24 years of age, come from countries all over the world and are often from challenging backgrounds. The team will trek to remote villiages in Nicaragua to deliver community and sustainability projects such as building schools and community centers, installing new water supplies, working with scientists on conservation schemes and other similar work.

Raleigh is a truly great charity as these projects empower the Venturers, building their self-esteem, skills and sense of global citizenship. The local communities get new infrastructure, which helps to improve their quality of life and protect their local environment. The volunteer managers (like myself) get a rewarding experience and the chance to build their project management and leadership skills.

The charity needs support to pay for training, permanent field-base staff, specialists (such as carpenters, mountain leaders, and medics) and the project material/supplies. This is how you can help!!!

Be part of this win-win-win project by donating £20, €20, or whatever you can spare today. Join with me to help Raleigh International make a huge difference.

Thanks!

David

Raleigh works with young people (17-24 years of age) from all backgrounds and nationalities, including those disadvantaged or ‘at risk’, to enable them to make a positive contribution and enhance their personal and social development. We achieve this by engaging young people in worthwhile community, environmental and adventure projects that meet the needs of people living in developing countries.
