After losing my dad in December I have been thinking of ways of marking his passing.

As some of you may know my dad was the actor Peter Vaughan. He had a remarkable career spanning 7 decades working in theatre, film, television and radio. 

Ever since researching and playing his role  as Alzheimer's sufferer "Felix Hutchinson" in the BBC drama "Our Friends In The North" in 1996, my father took a keen interest in both the care of sufferers & research to find a cure for dementia. It was a brilliant performance, one of the first portrayals of the devastating realities of Alzheimer's disease on British TV, that earned him a BAFTA nomination. 

So the Alzheimers Society was an obvious choice  of charity for me to sign up with in my attempt to cycle 100 miles in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 event in July. I think this will be a fitting tribute to my dad, hopefully helping raise lots of money for a cause that was close to his heart. 

I am looking forward to joining the Alzheimer's Society team of some 600 riders taking on this special cycling event. I believe there will be 30,000 cyclists in total taking part on the day!  It will be a huge challenge for me to finish the course, and I would appreciate any donations, however big or small, to help keep me focused on the training and hopefully reach the target of £3000.
