The Brain Tumour Charity is the world’s leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives, we’re moving further, faster to help every single person affected by a brain tumour. A cure really can’t wait

Story

As some of you may be aware in 2015 I went to Jersey to watch the Island Games. This is a biennial (Olympic type) tournament for islands across the world with a population of less than 120,000. I went along with good friends Pete, Richard and Rob Miller (Long time Ware FC companions). We decided to lend our support to an island and after a long decision period chose Ynys Mon (Anglesey).

We named our group MerseatoJersey (based on the fact Rob lives on Mersea Island) and blogged and tweeted all our activities before, during and after the games.

The Ynys Mon team were fantastic and really welcomed us in. By the end of the week we were proud Anglesey supporters and would definitely continue supporting them.

Since then we've all been to the island to visit those we made friends with 2 years ago and to see some of this summers sporting stars in action.

Sadly earlier this year Lucy Beesley, one of the Ynys Mon athletes who'd competed in Rhodes in 2007, Aland in 2009, Bermuda in 2013 and Jersey in 2015, lost her battle with a brain tumour. She was just 25 years old.

Since first being diagnosed in December 2010 she had worked hard to raise awareness of brain tumours in young people and was a great supporter of the Brain Tumour Charity.

Although we only met her briefly in Jersey she was a massive part of the Ynys Mon Island Games family and will be deeply missed, especially this summer in Gotland.

At the end of the Gotland Island Games this summer there is a Half Marathon Fun Run (The Island Run) on Friday 30th June around the streets of Visby. I thought this would be a fantastic opportunity to show our (MerseatoJersey) support to the Ynys Mon team at this sad time and also raise awareness and funds for the Brain Tumour Charity in Lucy's memory. So I have entered the run and there will be a Welsh based gimmick for my run (details will be revealed nearer the run).

If you can spare even just a few pounds I would be very grateful and it really will go to helping such a good and less publicised cause.

Sincere thanks

David
