Story
Drowning is a leading killer of children in Bangladesh
In a country where 40 children drown every day, a nursery place can be a lifesaver. So our Creches for Bangladesh appeal aims to
raise at least £40,000* to fund community-led creches and protect thousands of children from drowning – and if you give before 30 April, your donation will be doubled by the UK government.
Give a child a safe place
40 children drown every day in Bangladesh, where ponds, rivers and wells are an ever-present danger. Most children die within 20m of their own home. But the drowning problem is as preventable as it is tragic. How will your donation help? It helps to fund childcare that could save a life. It helps give a child a safe place to learn and play in a country where drowning is an everyday risk. It helps to provide a sustainable, community-led facility that boosts childhood development.
Just £30 could pay for a whole year of childcare for one child
£170 is enough to pay for the set up and equipment
needed for a creche. And £835 could fund the entire annual
running cost of a creche.
Why I am doing this?
For those of you that know me, you will be aware of how passionate
I am about the RNLI and it’s drowning prevention work and how, over the years I have undertaken the odd challenge or two!
More recently, I have dabbled in triathlons, which I have
really been enjoying, and I am looking at completing a couple events in 2019.
As part of my training during the month of March, I have set myself the challenge of raising £835 which will fund the running cost of a creche in Bangladesh for one year.
The Challenge
The challenge that I have set myself will run during the month of March and I will complete a sprint duathlon every day for the whole month. This will consist of two out of the three events that make up a triathlon.
For example, I will choose between:
- A swim and a run
- A swim and bike ride
- A bike ride and a run
- A bike ride and a swim
The distances will be based on the Sprint Triathlon distance which are as follows:
Swim 750 meters (0.465 mile)Bike 20 km (12.5miles) Run 5 km (3.1 miles)
By the end of each day, I aim to have completed two of the
event distances. You will be able to follow my progress via my Facebook page and my Strava feed to verify that I have completed the distance. Please do join me on any of the runs, rides or swims. Details will be shared on social media.
