David became profoundly deaf at a young age, but he never let this define him.  His determination, resilience and strength were an inspiration to so many: his family, friends and work colleagues.

His life was marked with professional success and a wide variety of interests.  He was rightly proud of his scientific achievements, which included working on projects that were awarded the Nobel Prize.  His colleagues remember him as a great boss, good friend and someone who always had a great sense of humour.

Outside of his professional career he was a fun, loving and supportive husband and father, as well as a very proud grandfather.  His interests, and talents were broad including wood carving, ballroom dancing, photography, orchids, bird life, camping and travel around the world.

He is very loved and admired by many people and shall be greatly missed.  Any donation made to the National Deaf Children's Society will be much appreciated as a memorial to his extraordinary life.
