Story

Firstly, we would like to say thank you for visiting our Just Giving page.

Two brothers (Ryan and Liam Bower) and four best friends (Sean Vardy, Arran Pickering, Sam Clarke and Rob Briggs) are cycling in loving memory of Dean Andrew Bower. A 400 mile journey from the heart of Derbyshire to the bottom of England. We are going to be doing the bike ride in September, setting off from Dean's house in Leabrooks on September 19th and making our way to Lands' End for September 24th.

Prior to Deans diagnosis in 2014 he had a passion for fitness, working at the local leisure centre as a lifeguard, progressing into a personal trainer, encouraging and inspiring anyone who had the pleasure to meet him. Throughout his treatment, as you'd expect, he had a lot of ups and downs, but always managed to keep a positive attitude around his friends and family to refrain them from worrying about the situation. After having a bone marrow transplant, Dean made a rapid recovery and astounded the doctors with how well he was doing. Upon the thought of being given the all clear, Dean thought up and intended to complete this challenge himself to give back to the people who helped him in his time of need.

In January 2017 Dean was unfortunately informed that there was no further treatment available and his current treatment was going to be ended. With that in mind, Dean still found the strength to put on a brave face and a bright smile, even building up the strength to propose to his girlfriend. The date was set, 17th February 2017, he somehow managed to summon up the strength to ensure that their wedding day was perfect and continue as if nothing was wrong and then they became Mr Dean Andrew Bower and Mrs Rebecca Sian Bower. Little over 48 hours of married life, Dean was sadly taken from us.

We have now taken up this challenge in memory of Dean as we feel we should give something back to the people who comforted and treated Dean throughout his illness.

In recent events Robert Briggs has has to make this journey completely alone. As being a member of the British Army, he is unable to do the ride in September as he is deployed over seas. Regardless of this set back and the short amount of training time Rob has had he is determined to do this challenge in memory of his close friend, even if it means 400 miles going alone. Rob will start his journey on Friday the 16th June 2017. We wish you all the luck in the world buddy! With you all the way.... SMASH IT!!!

Any donation, big or small, is going to be greatly appreciated as it will all add up and be given directly to the TEENAGE CANCER TRUST helping young and vulnerable people who are suffering from cancer.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this, wish us luck!!

NO ONE SHOULD FACE CANCER ALONE.
