Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have personal experience of dementia, having provided respite care
for my mother, who had Alzheimer’s disease. Sadly, she died in 2012
but I now want to help other families who may be going through a similar
situation. I have spoken about my mum's experiences in Parliament and will be running in her memory on 18th May.
Developing a Dementia-Friendly Oldham is one of my top ten priorities in my constituency work. Thousands of families in Oldham have been, or are being, affected by this disease and evidence shows the incidence of dementia is rising.
I have joined forces with the Alzheimer’s Society and Oldham Council’s Dementia Partnership to help make Oldham a dementia-friendly community, a place where people with dementia are understood, respected, supported and confident that they can contribute to community life.
Along with the Alzheimer’s Society, Oldham Council, and the local community, I attended the event ‘Building Dementia Friendly Oldham: A Call to Action’ at the end of February this year to learn more about the disease and how to improve the lives of those living with the condition locally.
I am already a Dementia Friend and trained in April to become a Dementia Friends Champion, enabling me to run dementia friends sessions in Oldham and Parliament!Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
