The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.

Story

Im 1994 I was diagnosed with a rare eye disease  that means I will lose at least a large part of my functional sight.   In 2005 I started to go blind.

But in 2012 my life changed when I was matched with my Guide Dog Lewis.  He has kept me independent and taken me on some amazing adventures.  He is my rock and I will do everything I can to take care of him and make sure that other people can have the independence and joy I have through owning a Guide Dog.

I  am lucky enough to be able to cover Lewis's running costs - about £1,000 per year - but there re other blind people who rely entirely on Guide Dogs to provide their dog and everything that they need to work.  Each dog costs £33,000 over its lifetime, from breeding costs, to training, to feed and vet bills, and the charity does not receive a penny of public funding.  That's why your donation is so important.

I have set myself the challenge of raising £5.000 over a year.  I have completed my trek up MacchuPicchu and will now be setting my sights on the long road to the finishing line at the London Marathon 2017.

For all of you who love Lewis too, and for all of you who want to change the life of a visually impaired person, I am incredibly grateful for your donations which will help others to benefit from the unparalleled services delivered by Guide Dogs.
