We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

"Why have life saving treatment if I don't have a life?"

I cannot remember when my brother Rob spoke these words to me but I have never, ever forgotten them.  Rob was diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer in April 2012 (just 4 weeks before we lost our mum to cancer). The majority of men with his prognosis were expected to survive between 2 and 5 years.  At the time of writing (September 2018), Rob will have survived the disease for 6 years, 5 months and 2 weeks.

Rob's huge lust for life totally inspires me.  I swear that this, together with the groundbreaking treatment he has received to date, has helped him defy the odds.  Indeed, his quality of life has been affected by his illness (he had surgery earlier this year and more is imminently required).  However, Rob is enjoying life as much as he can - watching football and cricket, going to the theatre and cinema and attending various art exhibitions.

Life saving treatment and groundbreaking drugs cost money.  Cancer Research UK (CRUK) receive no Government funding whatsoever.  It is therefore down to the public - ordinary people like you and me - to raise these funds to fight this disease and ultimately save lives.

My total raised for CRUK to date is currently £76,304.20 and I hope to get this up to £100,000 one day in the very near future.  Please help me in my quest to help people like Rob continue to enjoy life whilst having treatment.

I'll be running my 6th consecutive Virgin Money London Marathon for Cancer Research UK on Sunday 28 April 2019.  As part of this fundraising campaign, I have already run The Great North Run and the Beckenham Half Marathon.  I will also be doing lots of other runs plus various events to support my campaign and will regularly post details of these.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Whilst I will always run in memory of my boss Emma and my mum Marion and of course for Rob and everyone else I know who has been affected by cancer, I am dedicating this London Marathon to my friends Andy and Lill and to a friend's sister who have all recently been diagnosed with cancer.

Massive thanks yet again to you all for supporting me and Cancer Research UK.

Much Love,

Debs xxx
