Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the Robin Hood Half Marathon in Nottingham (my home town) on 30th September to raise much needed money for cancer research so that cancer might be detected earlier in the future and more lives can be saved.
My dad - Bruce Thomas - was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer that is advanced, having spread beyond the prostate. Receiving this news is devastating for everyone but the knowledge that more could have been done, had it been detected sooner, makes it even more difficult to bear.
Dad is and always has been a very special person to me. Without his help and support, I would not be where I am today. He has always supported me in every way possible - whatever I have done. Life has certainly had its ups and downs and dad has always been there; supporting me when I have needed his support and celebrating my successes with me. I love and value him enormously. He is a shining example of what it is to be a Christian; always putting others first and leading a selfless life through faith; setting an amazing example to others. I admire him in so many ways.
I can't cure my dad but I can raise money for cancer research so that others might have their cancers discovered earlier on; making complete and successful treatment possible more often.
I am not a runner and I am going to have to put in a great deal of effort and training in order to be able to finish this half marathon. I am doing it for dad and for all the thousands of people who will find out that they too have cancer so that early detection rates improve; treatments are more effective and more lives are saved. Please support me if you can with what ever amount you can spare. Every pound makes a difference.
