Story

On 13 May 2017, 10 year old Charlie Mealor and his sea cubs pack, Dee Sea Cubs, will be cycling their annual JOTT (Jamboree on the Trail) in aid of The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.

Charlie came up with the idea because in November his Grandad, Fred Bushell, was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer which had already spread to his pelvis and spine.

This came as a huge shock to Fred and to his family as he is generally a very fit, healthy and active man. There were no obvious symptoms, other than back ache, which he had been suffering from for years anyway, due to osteoarthritis in his spine. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK and often there are no symptoms.

From the time of diagnosis, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre have been amazing with Charlie's Granddad, not only from a medical point of view, but the kindness and compassion shown by all staff and volunteers has helped to make this difficult and life-changing situation more bearable.

To help come to terms with his Granddad’s diagnosis, Charlie wants to raise money for this fantastic place and raise awareness of prostate cancer. His cub troop, Dee Sea Cubs, are supporting him by dedicating their annual JOTT to the cause.

As Fred is a keen cyclist, the troops will be cycling along the Wirral way from Neston to Thurstaston and back on 13 May 2017.

Please support this incredibly important cause and the young Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who will be working so very hard to raise as much as they can to help cancer patients right here in the Wirral and across the region.

On behalf of Fred and his family, thank you all so much for all your support, it means so much.
