We Use the Power of Bicycles to mobilise those challenged by distance

Story

So, I'm gonna be running the Reading half marathon with a Deliveroo box on my back for World Bicycle Relief. And not the new ultra-reflective, sleeker and more lightweight model you see all the riders with now. Oh no, I'll have the privilege of piggybacking the older, bulkier, fridge-wannabee monstrosity (Shoutout to Tony The Fridge who is an inspiration to all in the field of running-with-things-on-your-back. Seriously check him out.).

Why am I doing this? Well mainly because, as far as raising bikes-are-really-good-and-everyone-should-have-one-awareness goes, I suspect it'll be a pretty good demonstration of how useful they are. And how much you notice not having one. I mean I couldn't do my job without one (although if I did have to, the only thing at stake would be a couple pizzas and some Wagamamas). And in developing countries where cars are scarce, having a bike's even more important. From getting kids to school to getting doctors to patients, I think we take it for granted but the humble bike can empower people.

Anyway, I've done some halves but I've no idea how running 13.1 miles with a Deliveroo box is going to be, however, I can't imagine it's going to be pleasant. Unless I fill it with performance enhancing drugs, of course.

I plan not to train with the box at all, because that sounds really unenjoyable to be honest, and just to turn up on the day and run as fast as I can with that fast food freeloader strapped to my back. Whatever happens though, rest assured that box is getting from start to finish.

Wish me luck and thanks for reading!

World Bicycle Relief in their own words:
World Bicycle Relief believes in a world where distance is no longer a barrier to education, healthcare and economic opportunity. Our mission is to provide sustainable, appropriate bicycle transportation to mobilise and empower individuals and communities so they can travel to schools, clinics and markets.

TL;DR I'm going to run a half marathon wearing a deliveroo box so people in developing countries don't have to.
