Dexter's Climb Snowdon page

Dexter's Grandpa Joe (Yussuf) was from Somalia. He sadly passed away some years ago but his memory lives on with granny (Brenda), dad (David) and uncle (Aden).
Somalia is one of the poorest countries in the world and is currently facing one of the worst droughts in decades.
Whilst watching the harrowing scenes on the news showing the famine in Somalia Dexter asked 'What if I was born in Somalia?' The answer to that question is that aged 10 he quite simply might not be here. 1 in 8 children die before they reach their 5th birthday. Also, 49% of children are engaged in child labour and half of school aged children are not in education.
The next question was 'What can I do to help raise money for children in Grandpa Joe's home country, Somalia?'
Dexter has been learning about mountains at school and all the children are split into house teams named after mountains: Snowdon, Eiger, Matterhorn and Everest. Dexter is in team Everest..... we felt climbing the highest mountain in the world may be a bit too much of a challenge at the moment (but never say never.....)
So we will start with a more modest challenge to climb Mount Snowdon on Saturday 27th August. Our experience of mountains thus far has been skiing down them (Dexter in a far more speedy and agile way than me!).
Please do help Dexter and I raise money to help the children in Somalia and honour the memory of Grandpa Joe. More information on the work that Save the Children are currently undertaking in Somalia can be found on the Save the Children website below:
